Home Sweet Home

Here are some pictures of my new townhouse in Muscat.  While living in a brand-new place is pretty great, it also means that I get to be the first one to find all the construction defects.  And oh, are there construction defects!

Here's a view from the kitchen - the indoor/outdoor pool is off to the right (and makes a nice part of my living room!)

Apparently here you need switches to turn everything on and off, which includes the stove, microwave, dishwasher...now to figure out what each of them does!

A view down the street in my neighborhood.  The fabric is the shade for my car, though I learned this past week that they rip off fairly easily in rain or wind.

Zim hanging out on the roof deck!  He now spends his evenings prowling the roofs, which seemed better than letting him out to terrorize the neighborhood.

In addition to figuring out all of the switches, I had some plumbing issues as well.  Despite arriving at midnight on Saturday night, I planned to go to work on Sunday morning (the work week here is Sunday through Thursday).  After 20 hours of traveling with a cranky cat, all I wanted was a hot shower.  To make a long story short, my hot water didn't work and I didn't have sufficient water pressure to make the shower work.  Instead, I bathed in the lukewarm dribble of water that came out the spigot at the bottom of the shower.  Crouched down, trying unsuccessfully to bathe, all I could think of was "Welcome to Oman!"

Fortunately that evening workmen fixed the showers, the sinks and realized that both televisions in the house were broken.  But I will say that being forced to stay up until 9:30 at night helped me get over any jet lag really quickly!
